Getting There
We personally think this may be the best part of any trips to practically anywhere. There's always the option of:
a) Flying to Langkawi (by air)
- Fastest way to arrive. For those who have less patience to see the beach then perhaps this may be is the best way. But then again prices of tickets tend to change from time to time. You just have to keep your eyes peeled for promotional prices. Do AVOID purchasing flight tickets at last minute as prices tend to hike up.
**You, Me & A Backpack travelling tips: Consider and look at as many flight tickets from multiple companies. Prices tend to vary.
- I would have to say the most popular way of getting to Langkaw especially among the local. There are 3 (three) jetties / pier that cater trips to Langkawi; 1) Kuala Kedah 2 Kuala Perlis 3) Penang. Tickets from Kuala Perlis are sold at RM18.00 only for adults and RM13.00 for children. These are one way tickets. (as per March 2015). The downside?? You don't get to select your seats. One of you may sit on the right side while your seat number may be at the next row on the left.
- Trip to Langkawi Island by ferry can take up to 1 hour 40 minutes. Schedule for the ferry may be referred to here. Trips start as early as 7am. You may park your vehicle around the jetty / pier for a price and choices of open parking or roofed parking.
**You, Me & A Backpack travelling tips: If possible take the earliest ferry as the jetty / pier will get really crowded by mid day. By 10am, most of the parking close to the ticket counter are already occupied.
- For those who would like to drive their own transport to Langkawi Island, you may do so. Your vehicle will be docked on a cargo ferry for the price of RM300.00 for an average sedan car from 1500cc - 2000cc. (as per March 2015) For more info, please click here.
**You, Me & A Backpack travelling tips: Would only be worth it if you tend to stay for long period of more than 1 week.

Moving Around Langkawi Island
This is one matter you don't have to worry about. In Langkawi there are tonnes of car rental services. When you reach the ticketing booth, you will be approached by agents of car rental, saying that they are running out fast of available cars. Actually the moment you step off the ferry there are so many companies that offer car rental from as low as RM40.00. But if you still want to come prepared, why not book online and choose the vehicle of your choice :)
Don't worry about getting lost, sometimes it's all part of the trip that makes it more spontaneous and adventurous. But if you REALLY need one, opt for your GPS. Enjoy Langkawi!!
